정부 무상원조 기관인 ‘코이카’가 대한상공회의소와 함께 한국전쟁에 참전한 에티오피아 참전용사 후손 300명에게 오는 2014년까지 약 900만 달러를 지원하는 사업을 실시한다고 16일 밝혔다.

The KOICA, the governmental grant-type aid organization, said they would start a project that supports 9 million dollars for 300 descendants of Ethiopian war veterans who participated in the Korean war in cooperation with Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry by 2014.

이 사업은 지난해 7월 이명박 대통령이 에티오피아 방문 당시 주재국 총리와 갖은 정상회담 후속조치로 에티오피아에 거주하는 한국전 참전 용사 후손에게 한국 기술연수 및 취업기회 제공, 자국 내 취업역량강화와 자립기반 구축을 목표로 하고 있다.

This project was decided after the summit meeting between the president Lee Myung-bak and the prime minister of Ethiopia at the President Lee’s visit to Ethiopia last July. The aim of this project is to offer a job opportunity to Ethiopian descendants of Korean-war veterans and to strength national employment and establish the foundation of independence.

또 국내기업과 연계해 연수성적 우수자에게는 한국기업 취업과 연수 후 귀국자에게는 현지에서 취업과 창업을 할 수 있도록 지속적으로 지원할 예정이다.

Also it will be working with the local enterprises where those who have good result in their training, the local employment will be offered in Korea and for those who decided to go back to their countries, the continuous support will be provided for an employment or even starting a business.

 

특히 6·25 한국전쟁 당시 평화와 자유를 위해 목숨을 바친 에티오피아 참전용사들에 대한 보은이 바탕에 깔려있으며, 에티오피아 정부 측도 이 사업 이 참전용사 후손들의 삶의 질 개선과 에티오피아 주요 산업에의 양질의 기술 인력 양성과 산업 발전에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

This is as a token of returning thanks for favors of Ethiopian veterans during 6.25 Korean War and the Ethiopian government expects that the project will contribute in improving the quality of lives of the descendents of war-veterans and help develope high skilled manpower in technology and industry.

 

한편, 코이카는 17일 오후 2시 본부 대강당에서 연수생 60명을 초청, 1차 연수 입교식을 개최할 예정이다.

1차 연수는 내년 8월까지 약 8개월 동안 진행되며 이 기간 동안 연수생들은 전공별 연수, 산업시찰, 관련 기업체 및 기관 방문 등을 통해 자동차, 전기전자, 용접, 한국어 등 다양한 직업분야에 대한 전문교육을 받는다. 

Meanwhile, KOICA is planning to hold primary entrance ceremony for 60 trainees at the Headquarters Auditorium on Feb. 17th at 2pm.

1st training will take place until August next year for about eight months and the course will cover professional education on various fields including automotive, electronics, welding, and Korean language by means of training of each major, industrial inspection, and visiting related businesses and institutions.

 

에티오피아는 한국전쟁 당시 아프리카 대륙에서는 유일하게 6천37명의 지상군을 파견했으며, 참전용사와 후손들은 1974년부터 20년간 사회주의 정권하에서 상대적 차별을 받아왔으며, 현재도 대부분이 극빈층으로 생활하고 있다.

Ethiopia was the sole country in the African continent that sent 6,037 reinforcements in those days to Korean War and it led veterans and their descendants to receive social discrimination for 20 years since 1974 under the socialist regime and to be living in poor condition up to date.
